Curriculum

At Sandbox Collective we believe children learn best when they are actively exploring their environment and building skills through their daily routines. Children at Sandbox Collective learn by interacting with their peers while in the company of nurturing, professionally prepared teachers.

We draw inspiration from a Reggio emergent curriculum

Our teachers carefully construct the indoor and outdoor environments to invite children to explore and freely choose a variety of materials and experiences such as music, art, building, sensory, etc. Teachers and children collaborate together to create meaningful daily experiences based on children’s interest. This collaboration invites teachers and children to wonder, create, and learn together.

Our whole-child approach recognizes and values the connections between children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and language development, as well as their physical and mental health. Our philosophy is that through play, co-collaboration with teachers, and freedom of choice, children integrate all areas of development in an organic way.

We provide opportunities for children to build self-confidence and independence through practical life skills (cooking, self-care, yoga, gardening).

Curriculum: About

Purposeful Experiences

Bilingual

There are many benefits to bilingual education, including strong executive functions skills and empathy.

We immerse children in a bilingual (Spanish/English) environment. Speaking to them in Spanish during routines, mealtimes, songs, literature, and conversations. Our goal is for children to enjoy speaking and hearing Spanish in a natural setting.

Child Initiated Curriculum

Our teachers are responsive to the unique interests and ideas of children. Curriculum is carefully constructed, in partnership with children, to build upon children’s current knowledge and natural inquiries.

Developmentally Appropriate

Our Staff observes carefully and connects children’s interests and individual goals with developmental and learning needs.

Knowledgeable Staff

Our teachers are trained to use the California Early Learning and Development Foundations, published by the CA Department of Education and aligned with CA Learning Standards, outlining the competencies that most children can be expected to exhibit in a high quality program.

Research- Based Assessment

We track children’s learning progress using the Desired Results Developmental Program (DRDP),  a research-based assessment tool aligned to the CA Early Learning Foundations. This helps us plan and implement experiences that are challenging and individualized for the children in our program.
